What are the characteristics of metal structure steel buildings?
Metal structure steel building is a new type of building system, which can connect the industry boundaries between real estate, construction and metallurgy, and can be integrated into a new industrial system. This is the steel structure building system that is generally favored by industry insiders. What are the characteristics of steel structure buildings?
Characteristics of Metal Structure Steel Buildings
Economy
The steel structure building adopts advanced design and processing technology and large-scale production mode, so the cost can be greatly reduced. At the same time, because the installation is simple and fast, a lot of construction costs are saved, and enterprises or developers can put into production faster and get results.
The cost of traditional reinforced concrete building is high, and the construction period is long. The cost is vulnerable to unpredictable factors, such as natural disasters, winter and rainy season construction, rising material prices, and so on.
Construction progress
The metal structure buildings can be delivered and installed quickly. The buildings are expected to be installed within four or five months after the contract is signed, and are basically not affected by winter construction.
The construction speed of traditional reinforced concrete structures is relatively slow, and the construction period can reach 8-10 months or more.
Carrying capacity
The weight of metal structure steel building is usually only 1/6 of its design bearing capacity, and the component weight is much lighter than the reinforced concrete component.
In traditional reinforced concrete buildings, the weight of the structure itself is often equal to its design bearing capacity, and the prefabricated components are heavy, which requires high lifting equipment.
Foundation cost
Due to the light weight of the steel structure, the column bottom reaction is small, thus saving a lot of foundation treatment costs.
The foundation treatment of traditional reinforced concrete buildings is complicated due to the complex self weight of their own structures. In case of poor soil quality, more than half of the total cost of the structure should be used for the foundation.
Seismic resistance
The steel structure building has large deformation before destruction, which is easy to detect and avoid. At the same time, due to light weight and mechanical properties of joints, metal structure buildings have good seismic performance.
Traditional reinforced concrete buildings are based on the material properties of concrete. Compared with light steel structures, reinforced concrete buildings are more prone to brittle failure, and their seismic performance is significantly lower than that of steel structures.
Large space and plane layout
The interior space of the steel structure building is spacious and can reach a span of 60m at most. It can be easily expanded and reconstructed, and various industrial pipelines can be flexibly laid.
The span of traditional reinforced concrete buildings is limited, and the span can only reach more than 15m by using prestress technology. The internal space layout is limited, with many columns and large space waste. It is difficult to change its structure after completion, and the coordination between structural design and other disciplines is more complex.
Mobility
The metal structure steel buildings can be connected by bolts, which can be easily disassembled, transferred and assembled at a low cost, with strong mobility.
Traditional reinforced concrete buildings basically have no possibility of moving.
Aesthetics
The steel structure building has a strong sense of the times and changeable appearance, which is suitable for expressing the architect’s imagination.
Traditional reinforced concrete buildings, especially industrial buildings, are relatively simple and inflexible.
Corrosion resistance and fire resistance
If a metal structure building is exposed to air or damp environment for a long time without effective protection, its surface will rust. Rust can cause stress concentration and promote early damage of the structure. The steel structure building is heat-resistant and not fire-resistant. Due to the characteristics of steel, the steel structure will lose its bearing capacity at 450-650 ℃. Generally, the fire resistance of unprotected steel structures is very low, so protective measures need to be taken, which greatly increases the cost.
