How to build a corrosion-resistant steel workshop in the Philippines?
Against the backdrop of the Philippines’ accelerated manufacturing upgrade, a local company urgently needed to construct a large-span production plant that combined durability and functionality to support its expanding automotive parts processing and warehousing business. Faced with the challenges of the local high temperature and humidity environment and salt spray corrosion, coupled with the urgent need to commence production within six months, Canglong Group, leveraging its full-chain service capabilities in design, production, transportation, and installation, tailored a corrosion-resistant steel workshop for the client, delivering an efficient, durable, and worry-free solution with industrial-grade quality.
At the project’s inception, the Canglong team conducted in-depth research into the Philippine client’s needs.
- Firstly, the plant needed to accommodate large processing equipment, requiring a 13.9-meter span column-free space to enhance layout flexibility.
- Secondly, the local average annual humidity exceeded 80%, and the coastal area suffered severe salt spray corrosion, making corrosion resistance a core requirement.
- Thirdly, the construction period was tight, needing to be compressed to six months from design to production, while also minimizing subsequent maintenance costs.
Based on this, the team focused on a “portal frame structure + high-performance anti-corrosion system” technical approach, aiming to create an industrial platform that is corrosion-resistant, spacious, and quick to deliver.
Seamless Integration from Drawings to Implementation
As a one-stop solution provider, Canglong Group covers the entire project lifecycle, with each stage closely aligned with customer needs:
1. Customized Design
BIM-based collaborative design across all disciplines begins immediately upon project launch. Addressing the heavy rainfall characteristics of the Philippine rainy season, the roof utilizes a 1:10 double-slope drainage design, combined with 0.6mm thick color steel sheets (PVDF coating) and double-layer polycarbonate panels. This ensures efficient drainage while reducing summer heat radiation. The walls use 0.8mm moisture-proof color steel plates, paired with adjustable aluminum alloy louvers to balance ventilation needs with insect and dust prevention. The entrance is equipped with a 3-ton industrial roller shutter door, with a wind resistance rating of up to level 12.
Structurally, the main frame uses Q355 H-section steel, with beam-column joints rigidly connected via “end plates + high-strength bolts”. Verified by ANSYS simulations, it can withstand a typhoon load that occurs once every 50 years. All design drawings have passed the compliance review of the Philippine Society of Structural Engineers (PSCE), ensuring compliance with local seismic (8-degree seismic fortification) and fire protection (roof fire resistance limit of 1.5 hours) standards.
2. Intelligent Production
Component production is completed at the Canglong Group’s Henan base, with fully automated equipment ensuring precision. CNC plasma cutting machines control the cutting error of Q355H steel within ±1mm. Robots weld the flanges and webs of beams and columns, and the welds undergo UT ultrasonic testing (100% pass rate, Level I).
The key anti-corrosion process is divided into two steps: first, spraying epoxy zinc-rich primer to form a cathodic protection layer; then, rolling on acrylic polyurethane topcoat. Purlins use hot-dip galvanized C-shaped steel (zinc layer thickness ≥275g/㎡), and are additionally sprayed with epoxy sealant before leaving the factory to prevent white rust formation in humid environments. Ultimately, all components passed third-party SGS testing, with the salt spray test report becoming a crucial acceptance criterion for the client.

Canglong Group’s corrosion-resistant steel workshop project in the Philippines is not only an engineering practice but also a microcosm of the internationalization of Chinese prefabricated steel structure technology. It achieved this through precise alignment with overseas needs, meticulous attention to detail across the entire supply chain, and the application of core technologies to address pain points.
Canglong’s corrosion-resistant, fast-delivery, and easy-to-maintain industrial plant has created sustainable production value for its clients and provided a replicable model for Chinese steel structure companies to cultivate the Southeast Asian market.
